Italy; the land of real European heritage
Italy, also known as ‘The Belpaese’ which means (Beautiful Country) is one of the single greatest repositories of sensorial pleasures on earth. From art to food, from stunning and varied countryside to flamboyant fashion, Italy has it all. This is the country that brought the world ‘Slow Food’, devoted to the promotion of fresh products and fine traditional, cooking. Thus, it is very apparent that the country has a long list of mouth watering cuisines.
Italy is a country full of interesting things for the casual tourist and the educated tourist; it has deep Roman Catholic roots. The tourists can stay weeks in important tourist centers without reason to feel bored, but it is equally simple to get off the beaten track. In the north, next to the Alps and the landscapes of the Po River, many cultural gems and highly developed industrial cities fascinate. In this exciting country the people live the "la vita Italiana", which meant life in an Italian way.
With 44 touristic sites, Italy has more UNESCO ‘world heritage sites’ than any other country on earth. Its great città d’arte (cities of art), like Rome, Venice and Florence, have been attracting visitors for centuries, and with good reason. Venice is possibly the only city that has, in appearance, changed least down the decades but it has recently opened a sleek new bridge over the Grand Canal and a spectacular contemporary art space at the Punta della Dogana.
Apart from Italy’s art treasures, one finds plenty to keep oneself busy in the countryside. Travellers can ski in the Alps, hike the Dolomites or dive off Sardinia’s golden coast, a perfect destination for the adventure lovers. Adrenalin junkies can catch fireworks on Sicily’s volatile volcanoes. But as much as all of this, a trip to Italy is about lapping up the lifestyle. It’s about idling over a coffee at a street side cafe or lingering over a long lunch in the hot Mediterranean sun. One of the most popular areas in Italy is Tuscany which is located in central Italy. It is known for its beautiful landscape and picturesque towns and villages including Florence, Lucca, Siena and Cortona. The Tuscan region is a popular vacation destination with many nice hotels and rent. With Euros as the accepted currency Italy is a hot spot shopaholics with huge range of branded clothes to artifacts etc. Therefore, it is very apt to say that any travelers from any part of the world will definitely cherish its visit to Italy.
